The Town of West Hartford is requesting proposals from full service planning, design, and estimating architectural firms for the design of a new Elmwood Community Center. Proposers must have, or be firms employing a person with, a current license and registration by the State of Connecticut as an architect or professional engineer, with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the planning, design and construction of public buildings in Connecticut. Additional preferred qualifications include previous design work of community centers, libraries and indoor recreational facilities and with a focus on sustainable design and renewable energy systems. The Town strives to construct sustainable, energyefficient (ideally net zero or net-zero ready) facilities, as budget and facility type permits. Expectations are that the design shall emphasize the best long-range, lifecycle strategy for the facility and should consider indoor air quality, energy efficiency (e.g., heat recovery, heat pumps), renewable energy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and ease of operation and maintenance.
