Site work and paving for a bridge / tunnel in Fairbanks, Alaska. Working plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
The project purpose is to complete preventative maintenance and preservation measures on existing bridges at select locations along the NHS Interstate routes in the Northern Region, specifically: along the Parks Highway bridge maintenance work is proposed for the Little Coal Creek Bridge at Milepost (MP) 163.3, Hurricane Gulch Bridge at MP 174.1, Honolulu Creek Bridge at MP 178.1, East Fork Chulitna River Bridge at MP 185.1, Jack River Bridge at MP 209.5, Windy Bridge crossing the Nenana River at MP 215.6; the Nenana River Bridge at Rex (Jack Coghill Bridge to the Interior) at MP 275.9, and the Tanana River Bridge at Nenana (Alaska Native Veterans Honor Bridge) at MP 305. The work proposed under this project includes cleaning and washing bridges, replacing bridge rail systems, including posts, damaged bridge rail tube, base and anchors; tightening or replacing nuts on rails; repairing curb slider plates; patching deck and curb spalls, and deck joint headers; replacing damaged three-beam rails; recasting the expansion joints at piers and installing M-seals; resealing expansion and abutment joints; replacing bridge rail grout pads; repairing deck spalls; repairing bearing grout pads; replacing curb joints; tightening or replacing bolts; cleaning RN and painting bearings; cleaning the bridges and removing debris. Some of the work will require equipment to operate below the bridge, but no in water work or temporary work pads are anticipated. Once work is complete, equipment will be removed with no alternations to the stream channel expected. The proposed project will have minor encroachments into the floodplains of the respective bridges listed above. Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in 2024.
