This project was examined during the town-wide building assessment and has been discussed as a priority for more than two decades. On the eastern side of the building, the walls are all glass in various configurations. The western side of the building has smaller windows across the front at the base of the sloping roof. There are three sets of clerestory windows: one set— original to the building on the western side of the flat roof catwalk; another larger set also original to the building on the eastern side of the flat roof catwalk; and a third set in the children’s area, which was added in 1998 as part of the expansion of the building. All of the windows throughout the building are double-paned. Three quarters of the entire window inventory are original to the building (47 years old as of December 2022). The seals are broken in many of them; the glass has little in the way of UV protection; and the glazing has failed in most of them. The architect and mechanical engineer who assessed the library building expressed concern about some of the windows being inextricably intertwined with the HVAC units, which adds complication and cost to any window project. This project is included in the Town of North Kingstown's FY 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of February 16, 2024, information regarding a design team or a general contractor is not available.
