The City of Arcata is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to advance the South Arcata Multimodal Safety Improvements Plan (SAMSIP) Project. The City of Arcata has received funding for the initial phase of the SAMSIP Project through Caltrans Sustainable Communities Grant FY 23-24. The selected consultant will therefore be required to comply with the Caltrans' Local Assistance Procedures Manual (LAPM) and the Local Assistance Program Guidelines (LAPG). The grant was awarded to the City in partnership with Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG). The selected consultant team will collaborate with Caltrans, residents, schools, and businesses to create a plan for a safe multimodal path between southern Arcata and the Sunnybrae and Bayside neighborhoods, not only for bicyclists and pedestrians but also for the daily users and the crews responsible for maintaining the roads in that area. The City of Arcata intends to enter an agreement with a qualified consulting firm to assess the current multi-modal conditions within the project area and develop alternatives that will improve safety and connectivity, while following best practices and local planning documents for trails/walking and biking paths. The proposals received in response to this RFP will be used as the basis for selecting the consultant for the initial phase of the SAMSIP. The award for this contract is anticipated to be made at the Arcata City Council's meeting on or after February 7, 2024.
