Renovation of a pre-engineered storage facility in Seattle, Washington. Working plans call for the renovation of a pre-engineered storage facility.
As of January 8, 2024, a design firm has been selected. A timeline for construction has not yet been established. The purpose of this contract is to provide consulting, engineering, and related services to King County, Department of Natural Resources & Parks, Solid Waste Division, ("County") to evaluate the Renton Transfer Station (RTS) for closure, modernization for ongoing waste processing, and possible alternative future uses that optimize the Solid Waste Division (SWD) waste-reduction initiatives. The goal of this scope of work is to explore and evaluate impacts of station closure, options for ongoing use of the station for waste processing, and to research and estimate costs, benefits, and risks of potential alternative uses or combined uses. Question Deadline 12/28/2023 at 5:00 PM PT Every year, more than 400 homes in greater King County (outside of Seattle) and 500+ buildings in Seattle, are demolished, which generates a large volume of lumber that is essentially no different, and in some cases of higher quality, than new lumber. Utilizing this lumber removed from old buildings (and scrap new lumber from construction projects) moves us in the direction of a more circular economy and is the best outcome in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Reusing more lumber from demolished or deconstructed buildings, however, requires salvaged lumber processing infrastructure beyond what currently exists in our area. The key to building wood back into buildings is the development and operation of a Salvaged Lumber Warehouse, ideally located within a Sustainable Wood Business Park. King County Solid Waste Division and Seattle have established relationships with local businesses interested in working with salvaged lumber. Total Estimated Period of Performance: 70 months King County reserves the right to reject any and all Proposals at any time. The County may cancel this procurement at any time, even after the issuance of the Notice of Intent to Award. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
