Saving Project...

Renovation of an educational facility in Farmington, New Mexico. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 6,126-square-foot educational facility.

The San Juan College Harvest Food Hub is a grant-funded program by the U.S, Economic Development Administration. The program's mission is to grow and sustain the capacity of our food system and to positively impact our economy by connecting the community to accessible, fresh and healthy local produce, foods and artisan products. The program has partnered with the City of Farmington to re purpose an existing 8500sf city building for the support of the Food Hub. The building is located at 310 West Animas Street in Farmington New Mexico. This facility offers convenient in/out access and parking for the community and farmers. The building sits in the heart of Farmington. Existing building construction includes prefabricated metal building steel frame with stucco and stone veneer accents for the exterior finish. Roof is a 3:12 sloped standing seam. The existing floor plan is relatively open with sufficient existing restrooms to support community access. There are two large open spaces that will support easy renovation for the program's sorting and food prep needs. Phase 1 included renovation of 4,100sf of the building to allow the program to move from an existing warehouse and begin serving the community. The renovation included prep sinks, hand wash sinks, walk in coolers and freezers and associated space to support receipt, processing, storage and retail distribution to the community. This phase was completed in 2020 and is currently in use. The second phase, for which EDA EAA funding is being utilized, supports renovation of the second open area at approximately 1657sf for the commercial kitchen and additional food storage space. Construction materials for the proposed renovation are to support sustainable design principals including low voc products and the use of recyclable products whenever possible.
