Site work and renovation of a mixed-use development in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Completed plans call for the renovation of a fire / police facility; and for site work for a water / sewer project.
Pipe Hanger Upgrades and Water Hammer Mitigation - Stage 2 - Winnipeg Police Service Headquarters - 245 Smith Street. The Work to be done under the Contract shall consist of inspection and upgrades of pipe hangers in areas as shown on drawings. Installation/replacement of water hammer arrestors as required by plumbing code. Inspect and repair fire stopping through rated walls and add pipe bracing as required. D2.2 The major components of the Work are as follows: (a) Inspect and test each hanger (see detail 1/M1.0) as per Manitoba Plumbing Code in the project areas. Inspection to include the following systems as shown on each floor plan: (i) Domestic water lines, including cold water lines, hot water lines, hot water re- circulate lines, tempered water lines, tempered water re-circulation lines. (ii) Hydronic lines, including heating hot water supply and return lines, heating glycol supply and return lines, and chilled water supply and return lines. (iii) Sanitary and vent lines. (b) For each system noted above repair all the deficient hangers and add pipe bracing as required to ensure maximum spacing of the pipe hangers does not exceed that identified in the Manitoba Plumbing Code (see details 2/M1.0 AND 3/M1.0). (c) Install unistrut bracing to prevent lateral movement of domestic water lines. Bracing to be spaced at a maximum of 50 feet apart. (d) Install a new water hammer arrestor to each flush valve water supply or group of fixtures including water supply in the washrooms, washing machines, and humidifiers in the project area. In some areas, there are existing installed water hammer arrestors, these water hammer arrestors shall be replaced with new ones. Provide air chambers as same size as supply line or 20mm (3/4") minimum. (i) Pre-charged hard drawn copper shock water hammer arrestors complete with brass piston, EPDM o-ring seals and threaded connection. (ii) Designed To operate on domestic water to maximum 1034 kPa (150Psi) working pressure at maximum temperature 82 degrees C(180 degrees F). (iii) Water hammer arrestors shall be sized based on PDI standard. (e) For hydronic system only, weld pipe shoes to pipe on hot water supply and return mains. Remove insulation to accommodate welding and repair after complete (see detail 4/M1.0). (f) For sanitary system only, add pipe hangers as required to ensure cast iron piping has hangers within 6" of both sides at all mechanical joints and fittings (see detail 5/M1.0). (g) Inspect all fire stopping of pipe penetrations through rated walls within the project areas and fix deficient fire stopping (see floor plans for rated walls). (h) Contractor to submit phasing plan and schedule for review and confirmation by Contract Administrator. (i) In some areas, existing as-built drawings are inaccurate. Contractor shall investigate and provide a red line mark-up of the contract drawings for record "as-built" drawings. Revised as required to show any changes from that originally shown.
