Location Midway Road - McGirr Road to 0.65 miles S. and Herman @ Midway & McGirr @ Buffalo Project Length 0.65 miles Proposed Improvement 1.5" HMA Wedging, Shoulder Stone & HMA Patching Description of Work: the Work on This Contract Consists of Furnishing All Labor, Material, and Equipment Necessary to Place 1.5" Bituminous Mixture Complete Wedging on Midway Road, 2" Hma Patches on Herman Road at Midway Road and Mcgirr Road at Buffalo Road in Bradford Township. Engineer Notification the Contractor Shall Notify the Lee County Highway Department at 815-857-4141 No Less Than (3) Business Days Prior to the Beginning of Work on Any Roadway. Preparation of Existing Surface: All Existing Bituminous Surfaces Shall Be Swept Free of All Loose Material, Dirt, and Debris Prior to Applying the Prime/tack Coat. This Preparation Shall Be Incidental to the Contract. Bituminous Materials (Tack Coat): All Existing Bituminous Surfaces Shall Be Tacked at a Residual Asphalt Rate of 0.05 Pounds Per Square Foot With Ss-1 or Rc-70 Unless Otherwise Directed by the Engineer. Tack Coat Shall Follow Section 406 for the Standard Specifications. Tack Used Shall Be Paid for at the Contract Unit Price Bid Per Pound for Bituminous Materials (Tack Coat). Fresh Oil Signs During and After the Application of Tack, "fresh Oil" Signs Shall Be Placed at Each End and at 1 Mile Intervals as Needed Throughout the Project Area. the Signs Shall Be Installed in Accordance With Standard 701901-01. These Signs Shall Remain in Place Until the Prime is Covered With Hma or as Directed by the Engineer. the Cost of Furnishing These Signs Shall Be Considered Incidental to the Contract. Bituminous Mixture Complete: the Bituminous Mixture Complete Used to Produce This Mixture Shall Be Pg58-28. No Test Strips Will Be Required. The Compaction of the Surface Course Will Be Done With One Breakdown Steel Wheeled and/or Pneumatic Tired Roller and One Steel Wheeled Finish Roller as Specified in Article 406 of the Standard Specifications. in Addition to Lr400 Bituminous Mixture Complete, Contractor Shall Use an Illinois Department of Transportation Approved Hot Mix Asphalt Mix Design. All Costs for This Item Shall Be Paid for at the Contract Unit Price Per Ton for Bituminous Mixture Complete. Paver Automatic Grade Control the Paver Used for the Project Shall Have Automatic Electronic Grade Control. the Engineer Shall Be the Sole Judge on Whether a Paver's Grade Control Meets This Requirement. Any Paver Whose Grade Control is Not Approved by the Engineer, Cannot Be Used on the Project. Crown Correction Crown Correction Has Been Included in the Estimated Quantities of Hma in This Contract at the Rate of 10 Lb/sy. It Shall Only Be Used as Needed to Correct the Road's Crown, Fill in Depressions in the Existing Road, and/or as Construction Pavement Signs "low Shoulder" Signs Shall Be Placed at Each End and at 1 Mile Intervals as Needed Wherever a Drop Between the New Hma and Shoulder Exceeds 1". "uneven Pavement" Signs Shall Be Placed at Each End and at 1 Mile Intervals as Needed Wherever a Drop Between the New Hma and Existing Drive Lane Exceeds 1". "bump" Signs Shall Be Placed at All Cut Butt Joint Locations on the Mainline of the Project Roads and Where New Hma Pavement Ends Leaving a Drop More Than 1/2 ". the Signs Shall Be Installed in Accordance With Standard 701901-01. the Engineer May Adjust These Requirements to as Needed to Meet Field Conditions. the Cost of Furnishing These Signs Shall Be Considered Incidental to the Contract. Aggregate Shoulders: Aggregate Shoulders Shall Use Ca-6 Stone Unless Otherwise Directed by the Engineer. Shoulders Shall Be 3 Feet in Width or as Directed by the Engineer. for Estimating Quantities, a 2 Inch by 3 Foot Wedge Was Assumed but Actual Depth and Quantities May Vary. Contractor Shall Notify Engineer Immediately if Actual Quantity is Expected to Exceed Contract Quantity. a Shoulder Widener Machine or Similar Equipment That is Approved by the Engineer, Shall Be Used for Placement of the Shoulder Stone. Placement of the Shoulder Stone Shall Meet the Requirements of Articles 481 and 1102.04 of the Standard Specifications. Stone Shall Be Placed in Such a Way That an Even Distribution of the Rock is Achieved. the Stone Shall Be Then Rolled With a Vibrating Steel Wheeled Roller to Compact It. Contractor Shall Take Care to Avoid Vibrating the Existing Pavement Whenever Possible. the Depth of Stone is to Be Enough So That the Inside Edge of the Gravel is Level With the Edge of the Pavement After It Has Been Compacted. Any Shoulder Stone Left on the Pavement Shall Be Broomed Off. Hand Tools Such as Brooms, Shovels, Rakes, and Etc. May Also Be Used to Remove Stone From the Pavement. Unless Permitted by the Engineer, Large Equipment (Bobcat, Front Loaders, Graders, Etc.) Attachments That Scrapes or Drags Across the Pavement Will Not Be Allowed. All Costs for Material, Equipment and Labor for the Shoulder Stone Shall Be Paid at the Contract Price Per Ton for Aggregate Shoulders, Type B.
