The Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority (VCSFA) is seeking proposals from qualified firms to modify the Launch Mount (LM). This modification will take place after the existing water deluge systems have been demolished. The LM is an essential component of the launch system, and it is responsible for holding the rocket in place during launch. The LM modification will include several tasks, including the protection and preservation of the launch mount hinges. The hinges play a crucial role in ensuring that the rocket is held securely in place during launch. Another critical task in the LM modification is the removal of the top steel structure known as the Acoustic Suppression Ring (ASR). The ASR is a heavy component weighing approximately 23,000 lbs and is attached to the LM through connection welds and ablative silicone material. Careful removal of the ASR is necessary to avoid any damage to the LM. The center 2" thick steel center ring in the LM will also be removed, including portions of the 2" thick top plate and adjacent gussets underneath. This will create space for the installation of a new 2" thick A572 Grade 50 steel that will be welded to the existing LM in various places as detailed in the design drawings. Full penetration welds per AWS D1.1, Class A, will be required to ensure the structural integrity of the LM. The LM modification will also involve the construction and installation of a new Adapter Ring (AR). The AR will be attached to some of the existing threaded holes at the LM's top and will weigh approximately 20,000 lbs. The AR will be fabricated from A572 Grade 50 Steel, and full penetration welds per AWS D1.1 will be used. The AR will be a hexagon, 15'-6 side to side, and 23" tall, and the construction will be per design drawings. Finally, new multiple 1-3/4"- 5 attachment holes for AR and LM will be created on-site. This involves match drilling and tapping to ensure a proper fit. The successful completion of the project necessitates the availability of modification and specification designs, as outlined in Attachments C and D. To obtain said attachments, interested parties are required to submit a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (MNDA) to The Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority (VCSFA).
