The Prentiss Creek Streambank Stabilization project is located within a 4,000-linear foot section of Prentiss Creek, between 67th Street and Prentiss Drive. The streambank stabilization project includes engineering solutions and tailored native plant mixes to address the observed erosion and stormwater issues, including invasive plants, bank erosion, and stagnant water. Invasive species prevent the establishment of diverse, native plant species that provide significant non-point source pollutant filtration, streambank stabilization, and habitat for native pollinators and other valued animals. The project includes engineering and bioengineering solutions such as rock checks, toe wood structures, j-hooks, cross vane weirs, as well as some excavation/grading to create bank full benches, meanders, and some riffles and pools. As of June 30, 2025, per owner, they submitted for an IEPA 319 grant so they are waiting to hear back before they move forward. Preliminary/concept design is complete. They plan to move forward with a design/build format - hopefully in 2025.
