With the most recent flurry of economic development, a large number of both commercial and industrial customers have located within the sewer service area of LUB. While this growth is a positive for the local economy and job growth within the City, it also results in the need to expand and upgrade associated utility services. Although LUB is currently underway with current projects (associated with the Consent Order) to restore capacity within the existing collection system, the additional sanitary sewer flows have created the need for an upgrade within localized areas of the system within the immediately vicinity of new and potential commercial and industrial customers. Due to the location of the potential developments, the wastewater will be conveyed through a series of pumpstations, pressurized force mains and gravity mainlines before reaching the wastewater treatment facility. With the increase in flow quantities from potential new users, the associated infrastructure to convey this flow will require upgrades in order for LUB to provide sewer service. The project will include the replacement of two pump stations (including electrical controls), the upgrade of one pump station (including the installation of a backup generator and updated SCADA), the installation of approximately 6,000 linear feet of force main, and the upgrade/repair of priority sewer mainlines to restore system capacity.
