Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
Planning and development are underway to replace three bridges that connect Wrightsville Beach in New Hanover County. While all three bridges remain safe, they are nearing the end of their life cycle and must be monitored, inspected, and maintained on a more frequent basis. The two bridges along West Salisbury Street (U.S. 74) that cross Lees Cut and Banks Channel and the South Banks Channel Bridge on Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) will be replaced with new structures. As of August 15, 2025, this project is in the conceptual phase. It is anticipated to be advertised as a design-build project with construction expected to begin in 2028.
