Site work for a swimming pool in Girard, Pennsylvania. Completed plans call for site work for a swimming pool.
The work for this project includes: Removal and legal disposal of existing filter tank, piping, sand, valves, etc. not being reused installation of new Paddock 2 cell 316L stainless steel filter as specified installation of new SCH 80 PVC piping from pump discharge to filter, return line and back wash line installation of new Bray wafer valves as required installation of CPVC piping and valves from filtered water line to heater Demonstration and training on the filter.' A Bid Bond in an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the total of the bid shall be submitted with each bid. A bid submitted without a Bid Bond will be rejected. Bidders are advised that Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage rates are applicable to this project. The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities in the bidding. Bids may be held by the Owner for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days from the date of the opening of bids for the purpose of reviewing the bids and investigating the qualifications of bidders, prior to awarding the contract. The contractor must have a minimum of ten (10) years experience in swimming pool filter installation. The contractor must have installed a minimum of ten (10) 2 cell horizontal filters and be able to list facilities and contact information for each installation. A. TWO-CELL HORIZONTAL PRESSURE SAND FILTER SYSTEM It is intent of this specification to describe a water filtration system complete with all necessary items. It is the further intent of these specifications that filtration unit from pump through backwash system, including all filter control valves as hereinafter specified and all accessories, be supplied and guaranteed by one manufacturer. Any filter offered under these specifications shall be NSF listed at time of offering (bid date). Such listing shall be evidenced by filter model number appearing in current NSF listing for swimming pool filters at filtration rate required for this project. Filter specified shall be of Pressure Sand type. Filter shall be a product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in fabrication of water filtration equipment and who has a minimum of five (5) years experience in manufacturing this type of filter. Filter plant shall consist of a Type 316L Stainless Steel Horizontal Sand Pressure Filter manufactured by Paddock Pool Equipment Company, Inc. of Rock Hill, SC. A.01 Type 316L Stainless Steel Filter Tank(s), Non-Code Tank(s) shall be constructed for a working pressure of 50 psi. Tank side shell shall be offset to form a lap welding joint for fillet weld to standard dished and flanged tank heads. Tank heads shall be welded to the side shell by an automatic submerged arc process weld. Hand welding will not be permitted. Located in side shell shall be a 14" x 18" manhole complete with gasket, yoke and bolt for each cell. A 3/4 " coupling for air release shall be welded to side shell at the top of each tank or cell. A tank drain with shutoff that can be operated from ends of filter shall be provided. Exterior of filter shall be coated with an NSF listed chemically cured semi-gloss epoxy specifically formulated to protect steel surfaces from solvents and chemicals in corrosive environments. A.02 Internal Distribution System Each filter shall be supplied with a pressure equalizing overdrain system consisting of a Schedule 80 PVC header with PVC laterals. Orifices shall be pointed upward. Each filter shall also be supplied with a pressure equalizing underdrain system consisting of a Schedule 80 PVC header drilled and tapped for 2" diameter molded laterals. Non-clogging, self-cleaning orifice slots not to exceed .1985 inches on center shall be pointed downward. A.03 Face Piping and Valves All filter face piping required for operation of filter system from tank influent to and including "return to pool" valve and "backwash to waste" valve shall be supplied. All fittings and piping material shall be as shown on drawings. Filter system shall be supplied with epoxy coated cast iron bodied wafer type butterfly valves with stainless steel shaft and nylon coated disc. A.04 Manual Backwash When design flow rate can no longer be maintained, media bed shall be cleaned by reversing flow through media one cell at a time. Backwash flow rate shall be 15 GPM per square foot of filter area and shall be directed to waste. Process shall be manually actuated by direct control of individual valves or by linkage assembly, if specified with filter data provided by Project Engineer. A.05 Accessories There shall be supplied an air release system and an influent and effluent pressure gauge mounted in a common gauge holder for each tank. Drain tubing for discharge of air relief valve shall be run to appropriate drain location by contractor. A.06 Filter Media Each tank shall be supplied with a single grade of filter media supported upon a layer of 1/16" to 1/8" gravel. Filter sand shall be particle size of .45-.55 mm with a uniformity coefficient of 1.6 maximum. Gravel shall be placed in bottom of tank to a point 1/2 " above laterals. Media shall be supplied in separate bags, each containing approximately 1 cubic foot. A.07 Guarantee and Warranty Filter manufacturer shall guarantee in writing that if filter supplied is operated in accordance with written instructions given and accepted by Owner that it will perform in complete accord with specifications. Paddock warrants tank to be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service within 10 years of first use and internals within two (2) years of first use. Components and parts by other manufacturers are subject to terms, conditions and limits under their warranty. Paddock's obligation under this warranty shall be limited to repair or replacement of any item which upon Paddock's examination shall disclose to its satisfaction to be defective.
