Professional Services - Gas Main Replacement on Duke at Metrolinx Railway Corridor - Geotechnical Investigation and Monitoring Metrolinx (MX) has directed Kitchener Utilities (KU) to replace an existing 150mm polyethylene gas main in a 250mm steel casing, along Duke St between Victoria St N and Breithaupt St, where this gas main is in conflict with the proposed Kitchener Victoria Transit Hub (KVTH). The new 250mm steel casing will be installed by horizontal directional drill (HDD) at approximately 5.5m depth. MX requires KU to perform geotechnical instrument monitoring before, during, and after construction. Additional geotechnical engineering consulting may be required to support this work including but not limited to geotechnical investigation and ground penetrating radar. Construction may be completed in 2024 or may extend into 2025. The information obtained during these investigations and the engineering reports will be used by KU, MX and other consultants and contractors working on the gas main replacement project.
