The existing Northeast Middle School (NEMS) was constructed in 1961, and is considered past its useful life; NEMS is being replaced in its entirety by a new building at the same address (i.e. the new building will be constructed adjacent to the existing building). The new three-story structure is expected to be approximately 131,000 gross square feet, generally consisting of concrete slab on grade and steel structural framing, with masonry exterior facade, aluminum framed openings, and flat EPDM roofing. Work is expected to be completed in phases to accommodate the existence of the existing building and site amenities: Site work Building construction Migration of building use to the new facility Demolition of 1961 building Completion of site work Construction is expected to begin in September 2024, with a 20-month construction duration exclusive of closeout.
