1 The limestone quarries have a long history in Stonewall. Within a few years of the towns inception they were up and running, cooking limestone rock into lime powder or quicklime. By the early nineteen hundreds draw kilns were constructed. The draw kilns were like giant ovens that could cook and dispense quicklime around the clock. 2. Three heritage draw kilns remain at the Quarry Park site. An existing ongoing project is restoring the Southwest kiln. This request for pre-qualification is for the two North kilns. 3. The North kilns are significantly damaged and deteriorated. This deteriorated condition represents a significant life-safety risk with respect to collapse of the kilns, particularly the upper elevations. Localized repairs are considered to be short-lived. Therefore, the project will include re-building of the kilns. 1. The scope of work for the Project consists of rebuilding the North kilns as follows Dismantling and stabilization of existing structures. Masonry re-building. Maintain heritage elements. Successful proponent to be both the prime (general) contractor and masonry contractor with the following roles and qualifications: Coordinate, administer and supervise subcontractors. Experience with heritage stone masonry restoration projects in excess of $500,000.00. Journeyman mason(s) to be on-site during all active masonry work.
