The Town of Brookhaven owns and operates a solid waste management complex on Horseblock Road in Brookhaven, N.Y. Within this complex is a transfer station that is managed by a contracted vendor. The Town is responsible for structural repairs including the tip floor. Due to the corrosive nature of waste, and the abrasive nature of high truck and heavy equipment travel on the tipping floor, the concrete is worn down losing thickness of the slab each year. This project would incrementally refurbish and fortify the tip floor system with isolated repairs, and a durable topping system to withstand the high traffic, and reduce the wear of the concrete. This is necessary to contain waste leachate from transfer operations to protect and preserve groundwater quality As of April 26, 2024, this project is in the conceptual phase. Information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed.
