Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park - Replacement of Two Bridges, Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties, MI Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park 33303 Headquarters Road, Ontonagon, MI 49953 The Michigan DNR requests professional services to design the removal and replacement of two trail bridges and the bridge approaches. Services desired include providing hydraulic analyses, inspection of existing structures, load rating of existing structures, topographic surveying, boundary surveying, site surveying, and installing soil borings for two trail bridges at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Both bridges are park-internal (non-public) vehicular bridges. One is an approximately 42' long x 16' wide bridge over the Union River, which carries a groomed cross country ski trail, and the other is a 35' long x 8' wide bridge over a tributary to Sahwa Creek, which provides pedestrian and park vehicle access to a rental cabin. Union River Bridge (Bridge B-5) information: Located in Carp Lake Township, Ontonagon County, Michigan. Existing bridge is in poor condition due to significant deterioration of the timber, abutments are nearing the end of their lifespan, and total bridge replacement is recommended. Adjacent land is owned by MDNR Parks and Recreation Division There is no existing topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and H&H model/report available for this bridge. Soil borings shall provide assurance of bank stability above stream channel. Topographic survey, hydraulic analysis, and geotechnical investigation shall be complete by 8/1/2024. Cotten Cabin Bridge (Bridge B-32) information: Located in Wakefield Township, Gogebic County, Michigan. Existing bridge is in poor condition due to significant deterioration of the timber, abutments are nearing the end of their lifespan, and total bridge replacement is recommended. Adjacent land is owned by MDNR Parks and Recreation Division There is no existing topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and H & H model / report available for this bridge. Soil borings shall provide assurance of bank stability above stream channel. Topographic survey, hydraulic analysis and geotechnical investigation shall be complete by 08/01/2024. Site visit: Photos on the cover or within each proposal will make it clear if the sites were visited. MDNR wishes to have Phase 500 design completed by Dec. 1, 2024.
