This project addresses reliability improvements to the existing gravity sanitary sewer system and to the Dog Track Sanitary Lift Station located on Chaplain Schmitt Island. This project will also address the maintenance concerns regarding reversed slopes and reduce the inflow and infiltration identified within the Island sewer service area. In addition, this project will provide for the evaluation of the City owned lift station and pressurized force main system for improvements that would support the anticipated developments that have been identified as part of the Chaplain Schmitt Island Master Plan project. Project construction was delayed due to unanticipated costs of historic landfill disposal fees, as well as new feedback from Island stakeholders to relocate the proposed lift station. Design changes requested are significant and will not allow the construction to meet the original targeted schedule. Project funding requests is for future year funding to construct the revised sanitary system design with SRF loan funds in a year that no other Island development is ongoing that would impede construction schedule. Temporary flow control measures will be implemented as needed in the interim to maintain adequate capacity service for the existing and active developments to account for the delay in correcting the inadequate existing sewer. This project meets the requirements of the planned developments for the Chaplain Schmitt Island Master Plan. The project is included in the City's 2027-2032 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
