Design - Waterman Infrastructure Project. Professional Services Completed: 06 / 26 Total Project Cost: $8,300,000 Scope of Services The project is pending approval for design services only. This request is for Architect/Engineer (A/E) to provide design and project management to complete design packages suitable for establishing a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), in conjunction with the Construction Manager, and also to permit the project. Due to timing constraints associated with the Carmack Road scope of work, phased design completion with multiple GMPs may be required. Carmack Road Improvements design efforts will begin with a review of a completed design study, taken to a schematic level of completion, to confirm scope & schedule requirements. Design Development will then commence from that point. Lane and Carmack right of way improvements will be developed in conjunction with Carmack Road improvements and focus on increased driver and pedestrian safety and accessibility. Evaluation of site signage will build upon a study completed in 2023 to evaluate opportunities to increase site visibility & branding, building identification, and wayfinding. This project will occur in phases specifically to ensure completion of Carmack Road improvements prior to the opening of the nearby Multi-species Animal Learning Center (MALC) facility in October of 2025. Construction of these improvements must maintain access to the MALC project site, Waterman Headquarters, Rothenbuhler Honey Bee Research Laboratory, Controlled Environment Agricultural Research Complex, and Kunz-Brundige Franklin County Extension Building at all times. The Waterman Agricultural & Natural Resources Laboratory encompasses 261 acres adjacent to the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University. It is a unique facility which provides opportunities in teaching, research, and community engagement. It will become a university hub for leading science and public engagement related to food systems, agriculture, and natural resources; as well as a hub for industry partners to collaborate in teaching and research. Project will utilize the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) delivery method. CMR selection is anticipated in June of 2024. Project Description This project will focus on infrastructure improvements at the Waterman Agricultural & Natural Resources Laboratory. One major element is the enhancement and expansion of Carmack Road from north of Lane Avenue to its intersection with Kenny Road. Improvements at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Carmack Road - including a new pedestrian crossing, will also be evaluated. Additional improvements include a new multiuse path west of Kenny Road from Lane Avenue to Carmack Road, and enhancements to site signage. The project's design will be informed by the 2021 College of Food Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Facilities Master Plan. It will also build upon subsequent infrastructure and signage studies, completed in 2023 and 2024. These documents will be provided to shortlisted firms. Multi-use path design will build upon concepts evaluated in the 2023 Waterman Infrastructure Study and will likely consist of an asphalt path with a culvert or bridge crossing at the stream running East toward Kenny Road. The pathway and crossing must be suitable for Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) traffic. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
