Renovation of a mixed-use development in Severn, Maryland. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

https://theconstructionbroadsheet.com/maryland-county-proposes-m-for-school-construction-p1854-174.htm Anne Arundel County Public Schools said Wednesday that Mark Bedell, superintendent of schools, has presented the county Board of Education with a $204.7 million Fiscal Year 2026 capital budget recommendation. If approved, $119.8 million, the largest piece of that budget, will go toward construction of a new Center of Applied Technology (CAT) North ($13 million), a new Old Mill High School ($77.1 million) and a new Old Mill Middle School North ($29.7 million). These facilities are part of the Old Mill feeder system project, and, when complete, the new CAT North building will share a site with the new Old Mill High School in Millersville, Maryland, and the new Old Mill Middle School North will be located on the current CAT North site in Severn, Maryland. Also included in the capital budget is: $9.2 million for construction of a new school bus facility and lot in Millersville; $8 million for ongoing maintenance backlog projects; $6 million for roof replacement projects; $5 million for kindergarten and prekindergarten building additions; $4 million for other classroom additions; and $4 for athletic stadium improvements. Bedell has also provided a recommended six-year capital improvement plan that makes allocations for capital projects – based on requested funding – through Fiscal Year 2031. In addition to the projects already listed, the six-year schedule includes funding for: Asbestos abatement; Barrier-free access projects; Driveway and parking lot improvements; Feasibility studies and design for two facilities; Health, safety and security projects; Relocatable classrooms; and Sustainability initiatives. The plan must go through multiple local and state approvals, ending with review by the County Council and potential adoption in June 2025. The full 2026 recommendation can be seen here. In addition, the School Board is holding a public meeting on September 16th in advance of a board vote on September 18th. Last month, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced $24 million of state funding through the Maryland Energy Administration for energy efficiency, electrification and renewable energy projects in the state’s public schools. __________________________________________ SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION DATE The project Substantial Completion date shall no later than the following: Phase 1 Milestones: Bid #24CN-201, 2A Demolition December 2, 2024 Bid #24CN-212, 15A New Gas Service July 10, 2024 Bid #24CN-212, 15A Boiler Conversion July 22, 2024 Bid #24CN-213, 16A New Electrical Service Complete July 10, 2024 Phase 2 Milestones: Project Substantial Completion date for all projects
