Kenrick’s Construction was the lowest of three bids received; North Augusta City Council authorized the contract July 1. The transfer station is one of the projects legislated for use of federal dollars that North Augusta received in South Carolina’s 2020 settlement with the U.S. Department of Energy over the long-term storage of weapons-grade plutonium at Savannah River Site. The city received $37 million from that settlement, which distributed some $525 million to the affected jurisdictions. Of North Augusta’s share, $2 million is for the transfer station. Trash collected throughout North Augusta will be brought to the transfer station, to go up on Clay Pit Road near the new recycling facility. It then will be mechanically scooped onto a boom truck and taken to the landfill. _________________ North Augusta Solid Waste Transfer Station. The City of North Augusta will receive sealed bids for construction activities related to a new solid waste transfer station at 2 PM on June 25. The work consists of site development, construction, and associated infrastructure for a Class 2 and Class 3 solid waste transfer station.
