Renovation of a swimming pool in Athens, West Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a swimming pool.
Questions submitted at least five business days prior to a scheduled pre-bid will be discussed at the pre-bid meeting if possible. Any discussions or answers to questions at the pre-bid meeting are preliminary in nature and are non-binding. Question Submission Deadline: Tuesday, March 5, 2024 General Scope of Work (Base Bid) 1. Preparation: Remove all pool equipment such as ladders, lights, etc. Ensure the area is safe for workers. Note: Depending on approved infill material, modification to the existing entry system may be required for equipment access. 2. EPS Geofoam Installation: Install tapered pieces of Geofoam first to create level areas. Then install rectangular blocks of EPS Geofoam up to 36" thick to complete filling the pool void. Thinner sheet of EPS Geofoam may also be used. Any small gaps between pieces on the top layer can be filled with EPS scraps, sand or foaming adhesive. 3. Gravel Sub Base: After the pool is filled with EPS Geofoam, fill the final 6"- 8" with crusher run stone and compact with vibratory compactor or roller. 4. Reinforced Concrete Slab: Install a 6 mil vapor barrier over gravel and install a layer of welded wire fabric (WWF) at mid depth of 4" concrete slab. Pour concrete slab ensuring it is evenly spread to achieve a flat and level surface. Provide 1" expansion gap around new slab perimeter and existing concrete deck. 5. Finishing: The concrete to receive a smooth or light broom finish in preparation for the installation of the synthetic turf surface (separate contract). Control joints to be saw cut approximately 15' each way into new slab. 6. Remove existing tiered concrete platforms per the drawings and prepare new 6" gravel sub-base and construct new 4" reinforced concrete slab in the area of demoltion Concord University will be receiving bids to fill in the existing pool and constructing a new reinforced concrete slab over the filled in void. The space will ultimately be used as a new indoor athletic training facility and located in the Carter Center on Concord University's Campus Beautiful. The pool infill will be bid as alternate methods. The base bid will fill the pool void with EPS Geofoam, a lightweight, geosynthetic fill material that is strong and has a very low density. The foam may be a combination of large blocks and sheets. There will be two alternates, one to fill the void with stone and the other to fill the void with an approved soil fill material. All bids must be accompanied by a Bid Bond, executed by the Bidder and an acceptable Surety, in an amount equal to 5% of the bid. The successful bidder will be required to furnish and pay for a 100% Performance and Material Payment Bond in the amount of the bid and prior to entering into a contract. Bidders must comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Contract Work Hours and Safety Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the West Virginia Code 21-1D-5 requiring a Drug Free Workplace. Concord University reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities therein. No bid may be withdrawn for a period of thirty (30) days after the time of opening of the bids .
