Saving Project...

Renovation of a laboratory facility in Ames, Iowa. Completed plans call for the renovation of a laboratory facility.

USDA's National Centers for Animal Health in Ames, Iowa, includes an aquaculture facility in the basement of building 20. The water service for the aquaculture facility is connected at the most hydraulically remote point in the water service for building 20. In the event of a failure of the building or campus water supply, there won't be sufficient pressure and flow to keep aquaculture operating. The objectives of this project are to add redundancy to the aquaculture water supply by connecting the aquaculture system service nearer to the building's domestic water entrance. Work includes adding a new, 8" pressure reducing valve along with a dedicated 4" water service to directly supply the aquaculture system from the main water service. Additional valves and a low flow bypass around the new pressure reducing valve will be added throughout the system. Hot tapping will be required for new piping connections to existing systems. Solicitation documents are posted below. The estimated magnitude of this project is between $100,000 and $250,000. Please refer any questions pertaining to this solicitation to Jim Roloff, contracting officer, at james.g.roloff@usda.gov. Additionally, email your quote by the date and time indicated in block 13 on the first page of this solicitation. See Evaluation Factors for Award on pages 21 and 22. Scope: The objectives of this project are to add redundancy to the aquaculture water supply by connecting the aquaculture system service earlier in the building's domestic water entrance. The awarded contractor shall add a new, 8" pressure reducing valve along with a dedicated 4" water service to directly supply the aquaculture system from the main water service. Additional valves and a low flow bypass around the new pressure reducing valve (PRV) shall be added throughout the system, as indicated in the drawings. Hot tapping will be required for new piping connections to existing systems. To complete this, the contractor shall: (REFER TO DRAWING SET FOR LOCATIONS OF NEW AND EXISTING EQUIPMENT) (See attached specification sheet for valving, insulation, etc.) 1) Hot tap into the existing 8" water service supplying building 20. a. Install an 8" hot tap saddle (HT-1) and 8" gate valve onto the existing 8" water service downstream of the existing 8" gate valve on the existing water service for building 20. b. Install an 8" hot tap saddle (HT-2) and 8" gate valve on the downstream side of the existing PRV for connection of new 8" water line. 2) Install a new 8" pressure reducing valve in parallel with the existing 8" PRV. a. Copper shall be used for all new 8" piping for the new PRV. b. From the newly installed 8" saddle (HT-1) upstream on the existing water service, install a new 8" copper line and connect it to the downstream hot tapped saddle (HT-2). c. Install a new Watts(R) ACV, 150#, pressure reducing valve (or approved equivalent) in the new 8" copper line. This new PRV shall be installed in the open space next to the existing PRV and mounted and supported in such a way as to allow servicing and maintenance of both PRVs and other nearby equipment. d. Install painted steel structure of sufficient strength to support the new PRV when in operation. Structure shall be approved prior to purchasing/manufacturing and installation. e. New PRV shall have the same set up and configuration as the existing PRV. Please refer any questions pertaining to this solicitation to Jim Roloff, contracting officer, at james.g.roloff@usda.gov PN - 53-3K15-2-1700, 22205.00 *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
