Currently, Chemistry and Physics labs and lecture sections on the Dahlonega campus are being taught in Rogers Hall, a largely obsolete 33K GSF building built in 1948. The instructional and research labs and related service spaces in Rogers Hall are severely deficient and need to be replaced. The proposed Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) project will be an approximately 55,600 GSF building to be constructed on the north end of the UNG Dahlonega campus in proximity to the 94,000 GSF Health and Natural Science (HNS) building built in 2000 that houses Biology, Nursing, and Allied Health programs. The STEM building program is anticipated to provide state-of-the-art wet/dry instructional lab and service spaces (to fully replace the current functions in Rogers), efficient research lab and office space, and a focused general classroom program intended to leverage bandwidth in the existing HNS classroom inventory. The space program also anticipates an open maker space lab and a multipurpose dry lab with specialized equipment for cross-disciplinary use and to support aspirational future STEM programs.
