The Town of Salem, NH is seeking the services of a contractor to reconstruct and improve the existing 0.75 mile trail at Hedgehog Park to meet USFS Trail Accessibility Standards with compacted gravel/stone dust surface at 5-width. The scope of work Concept Plan is included as Appendix A of the RFP. The following services listed that are required by this project. Removal of vegetation within 8-ft. width by 10-ft. height corridor, except large trees Excavation of organic soils within 5-ft. tread way Primary Accessible trail: 5-ft. wide gravel & stone dust with 6-ft. X 6-ft rest areas at 200ft. intervals. Accessible Side Trails: 4-ft wide gravel and stone dust trail with 8-ft. X 8-ft. Rest areas. Stonework: Stone retaining walls for 4 rest areas at shoreline. Installation of geotextile fabric, crush stone fill as required, 3/4 " ledge pack gravel trail base, 1/4 " stone dust surfacing, drainage features/culverts as required. This project is located at Hedgehog Park, 53 Lowell Rd. Salem, NH. Proposed is a multi-use loop trail around Hedgehog Pond with 2 points of access to the parking lot. The project is intended to improve access to the trail for people with a wider range of ability levels. Construction of an All Persons Trail with a compacted gravel surface (gravel & stone dust) built to USFS Trail Accessibility Standards. Trail development must accommodate summer and winter uses. The Town's goal with this project is to create a sustainable trail system that is optimized for use by people of all abilities and mobilities, including people who use wheelchairs. The trail should be built in a manner that minimizes impacts to the natural environment. The contractor will be required to address any failure of trail structures beyond routine maintenance within the first 3 years following project completion.
