Renovation of a mixed-use development in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

https://www.newburyportnews.com/news/local_news/council-nixes-revised-capital-improvement-plan/article_ef5ca118-6f99-11ef-9c1a-972b98673d06.html Reardon reported that the three Brown School adaptive reuse proposals have been reviewed and all three applicants have been interviewed. Once applicants have responded to written interview questions, the advisory group will rank and score each proposal and then decide what to submit to the council, which will have the final say over which proposal is chosen. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ For the fee interest purchase of vacant surplus property at the former Brown School property located at 40 Milk Street in Newburyport, MA. The Office will subsequently summarize and post each proposal for consideration by the Mayor, Newburyport City Council and general public on the Planning Department's webpage. The City is soliciting proposals for adaptive reuse of the former Brown School, which has been deemed surplus to municipal use by the Administration, after consultation with various City departments. It is anticipated that, pending a successful proposal, the building will be advanced to the City Council for disposition, along with any potential zoning changes necessary to support the proposed adaptive reuse project. The City is inviting responses from development teams that can demonstrate their ability to successfully preserve and reuse the former school building for the production of affordable housing. There is also interest in preserving the existing gym/assembly space, an adjacent but connected structure, as a community resource. [See attached sketch plan exhibits for further illustration.] Proposals that identify a method by which the City may retain use or control of the gym, and include a financial contribution by the developer to its rehabilitation, will be looked upon favorably.
