Site work for a water / sewer project in Olympia, Washington. Design plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The project will install seismically-actuated isolation valves at various locations along the City's 36-inch transmission main. The seismic valves will isolate large volume of water in the pipe into discrete, smaller volumes to avoid loss of water and to reduce the potential of localized flooding and damage where breaks may occur. The project will mitigate the loss of essential services (potable and firefighting water) to residents and businesses that would result from a moderate or severe earthquake causing a failure to the City's transmission pipelines. To fund the project, the City has applied for a FEMA grant, which has a required 25 percent cost share. The project is included in the City of Olympia's FY 2025-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 21, 2025, this project is in the design phase. Construction should be completed by the end of December 2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
