Dempster Street is an IDOT minor arterial with two travel lanes in each direction, left turn lanes, and carries Pace bus service. This project was identified in the Niles Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update 2022 as SUP-09 Dempster Street Shared Path Cumberland Avenue to Milwaukee Avenue. This portion of the project recommends constructing a sidewalk on the south side of Dempster Street along Maryhill Cemetery from Cumberland Avenue to Milwaukee Avenue. As a key recommendation from the Village of Niles Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update and a Tier 1 Priority Gap as identified by the NWMC, the plan recommends construction of a 10-foot-wide path along the south side of Dempster Street (US Route 14) from Cumberland Avenue to Milwaukee Avenue (IL 21)
