The project consists of geotechnical drilling for 4.4 miles ofthe paved State Route 89 (SR 89) from its intersection with State Route 36 (SR 36) on the south to Lassen Volcanic National Park on the north in Tehama County, California. Project Description/Location. The project consists of geotechnical drilling for 4.4 miles of the paved State Route 89 (SR 89) from its intersection with State Route 36 (SR 36) on the south to Lassen Volcanic National Park on the north in Tehama County, California (see map below). The road is located in mountainous terrain with pavement widths varying between 22 and 25 feet. The drilling sites are accessible for a truck mounted drill rig. The pavement is in fair condition with transverse, block, and fatigue cracking, in addition to, potholes and asphalt patches. Road maintenance has consisted of asphalt patching, crack sealing, and asphalt overlays. Using ground penetrating radar, Caltrans found the existing asphalt thicknesses to range between 8 and 9 inches. The existing road conditions are shown in the photos below.
