City of Richmond agency Department of Utilities-Richmond Gas Works is a local distribution company with approximately 1,975 miles of distribution gas main and 105,400 gas services lines within the City of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, and Goochland Counties. City of Richmond owns, maintains, and operates approximately 445 miles of cathodically protected steel natural gas mains and approximately 3,500 cathodically protected and unprotected steel gas service lines. The steel system is currently comprised of 65 impressed current systems and 987 sacrificial anode systems. Additionally, there are approximately 6,500 structures less than 100 feet long protected by sacrificial magnesium anodes.
