Site work and paving for a sidewalk / parking lot in Topeka, Kansas. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.

GENERAL. Project consists of construction of new Concrete Sidewalk and ADA Ramps at the location shown on the included Exhibit. The intent of this project is to place the sidewalk and ADA ramps to access SE Illinois St. from North & West. Project may include additional work associated with or affected by the construction activities. The approximate quantities of the sidewalk replacement project are: BID ITEM Infill Sidewalk Program 241071.08: 1. 4" Concrete Sidewalk, 4' Wide 2. 6" Concrete Driveway 3. Aggregate Base (Type - AB3) 4. Seeding, Fertilizing and Mulch 5. Traffic Control QUANTITIES 920.00 75.00 19.00 0.10 1.00 ADA Sidewalk Ramp Program 241079.04: 1. 6" Concrete Sidewalk Ramp 450.00 UNITS S.F S.F Ton Acre LS S.F The sidewalks are aligned to avoid disturbing the existing structures and trees at the project location. There are three walnut trees with roots extending into the sidewalk alignment. Therefore, the roots should be trimmed carefully to ensure the trees' continued growth while providing space for the sidewalk placement. All this work is included under the bid item "4" Concrete Sidewalk, 4' Wide." The specific area for limits of the work will be marked by City of Topeka staff prior to construction. The City reserves the right to increase or decrease the project quantities and acknowledges these additions/deletions may increase or decrease project quantities and Contractor compensation based on the unit prices bid. There will be no increase or decrease in unit prices associated with any addition/deletion in quantity. SPECIFICATIONS. All work shall conform to the latest adopted edition of the City of Topeka Standard Technical Specifications. Only Pavement Class-A is the accepted classification for this project. Pavement Class-B is the accepted classification for sidewalks on grade. At the Contractor's option and at no additional cost to the Owner, "Pavement Class-A concrete" may be used in lieu of Pavement Class-B concrete when placing sidewalks on grade. Detectable Warning Area Materials. Sidewalk ramp detectable warning areas shall consist of brick red ADA Solutions Detectable Warning Panels or Armor cast Detectable Warning Panels (or a pre-approved equivalent). SC-3 4" CONCRETE SIDEWALK. This bid item shall include all work necessary to construct new 4" concrete sidewalk including all subgrade compaction efforts. SC-4 AGGREGATE BASE - TYPE AB-3. This bid item shall include all work necessary for placement of up to 2 inches of AB-3 base in accordance with the Standard Specifications if needed for finish grading of the base below the new sidewalk. The material shall be measured and paid at the unit price bid per TON based on load delivery tickets to the nearest 0.1 ton of AB-3. The unit price bid shall be full compensation for all labor, equipment, materials, tools and incidentals needed to complete the work as specified for AGGREGATE BASE - TYPE AB-3. SC-5 SC-6 SEEDING, FERTILIZING AND MULCH. This bid item shall include all work necessary to till, seed, fertilize, and mulch all unpaved areas of the project that are disturbed as a result of contractor activities on adjacent and/or abutting areas. The work shall be completed as specified in the City of Topeka Standard Specifications Section 4.19. SEEDING, FERTILIZING AND MULCH shall be paid for on a Lump Sum basis, which shall be full compensation for grading and tilling for preparation of the ground, furnishing and planting all seeds, fertilizing, compacting, watering and clean-up: and for all labor, equipment, materials, tools, supplies and incidentals necessary to complete the work as specified for SEEDING, FERTILIZING AND MULCH. TRAFFIC CONTROL. This bid item shall include placement, maintenance, and removal of all work zone traffic and/or pedestrian control devices as required for this project to meet MUTCD Standards and City of Topeka Standards. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic shall be maintained through construction to the extent practical. If at any time flaggers are required, they will not be paid for directly, but shall be considered subsidiary to this bid item. Traffic Control shall be paid for on a Lump Sum basis, which shall be full compensation for providing, installing, adjusting, maintaining, resetting as needed and removal of work zone traffic and/or pedestrian control devices: and for all labor, equipment, materials, tools, supplies and incidentals necessary to complete the work as specified for TRAFFIC CONTROL. SC-7 SC-8 SUBSIDIARY ITEMS. These items shall be considered subsidiary to other items of the contract: unclassified excavation, grading, supplemental borrow, curb & gutter tie bars, erosion control, water valve adjustment, removal and resetting of any permanent traffic signs or parking meters, and all other work not specified by a separate unit price bid item. CONSTRUCTION LIMITS. All work will be accomplished within Right-of-Way. Contractor is responsible to locate all utilities prior to construction project. SC-9 WORKING DAY. Work on this project shall be between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday, unless amended by the City Construction Manager. SC-10 CONSTRUCTION STAKING. Staking, if needed, will be the contractor's responsibility. SC-11 CONSTRUCTION INPSECTION. City personnel will inspect all work. A construction inspector will be assigned to the project and the contractor must have inspector approval of the formwork and subgrade before placing concrete otherwise, the concrete may be subject to removal. SC-12 PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING. A meeting prior to beginning of construction is required. Contact Chris Willard, Construction Manager, at 368-2418 to arrange for a meeting. SC-13 WORK ORDER. The Engineering Division will issue a Start Work Order after contract execution by the city. SC-14 CONTRACT TIME. The work will be complete and ready for final acceptance/payment within 30 calendar days of the Start Work Order. Additional days for inclement weather will be granted at the discretion of the Construction Manager. SC-15 NOTIFICATIONS. The contractor shall notify the Engineer and affected businesses, schools and residents of the proposed work a minimum of 72 hours in advance. The 72 hours does not include Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. It is expected that notification will include distribution of letters (for businesses) or door hangers approved by the Engineer. A "Traffic Disruption Permit" is required prior to the start of work. This permit may be obtained by contacting the City of Topeka Engineering Division - Traffic Section at phone number (785) 368-3842 a minimum of 72 hours in advance of starting work. SPRINKLER SYSTEMS. Where curb, sidewalk, or ADA ramp replacement impacts sprinkler system, Contractor shall take care to cap off any water lines which are encountered and turn over all removed equipment to the homeowner. Removing equipment and capping the line will not be paid for directly but shall be considered subsidiary to other items in the contract. SC-17 PAYMENT PROCEDURES. Contractor shall submit payment applications to the project inspector for review and approval. All payment applications will be based on the number of units actually completed. SC-18 ADDITIONAL WORK. The City reserves the right to increase or decrease the estimated quantities of any or all of the Unit Price work listed on the bid form, by any amounts, with the expressed understanding that no adjustment in unit prices will be made. Such increases/decreases will be authorized by a Work Change Directive. SC-19 SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS. The following submittals are required: 1. Concrete mix design/certification 2.
