Site work and new construction of a laboratory facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Design plans call for the construction of a 229,000-square-foot, one-story above grade laboratory facility; and for site work for a laboratory facility.
The 21,200 m2 building will include: Laboratories, workshops, and support spaces. Office accommodations and support spaces. TSB Head Office. Collaborative spaces to accommodate external partners (i.e., academia, other levels of government, non-governmental and non-profit organizations, local schools, indigenous groups, etc.). Exterior operational spaces will include: Yard for exterior wreckage storage with outdoor canopy. Enclosed storage, garbage and recycling with hazardous waste area. Fuel farm and fuel storage. Loading area. TIMELINE: The architectural and engineering services contract for this project was awarded to A49 and B&H, in a joint venture. The final design is expected to be completed in 2025. Contacts at the architect & engineers will not be released. The TSTS project will relocate the laboratory and head office of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), and the facility will house over 260 employees and scientists from the TSB and NRC. A Request for Proposals for the construction management services contract is expected to be published on CanadaBuys, timing is unreleased. Owner estimates the total project value at $500 million.
