During a recent finance committee meeting, City Engineer Patrick Patton reminded council that NOACA had committed to contribute $1.1 million to the project. He announced that this year the agency is willing to partner with the city even further by contributing another $661,000 to the reconstruction project. "That is getting us closer." Patton said the city will continue to look for funding to help offset the cost of the project and added that the city has an opportunity to apply for a grant through ODOT that could also help pay for a portion of the project. "ODOT reached out to us in December and recommended we submit to one of their programs that would pay for sidewalks and work related to sidewalks such as curb ramps within the project." Patton said the grant is 90/10, so if awarded, ODOT would pay for $675,000 of the sidewalk work which would be another step in bridging the financial gap. Patton did add that plan would call for 5-foot-wide sidewalks on either side of the street. He said the city's plan was to have sidewalks from south of Liberty Street to the northside of Progress Drive. "But ODOT likes for the sidewalks to start and end at intersections, so they would pay for sidewalks from Liberty Street to Progress," he said. ------------------------------ Median closure and westbound right turn lane at US-42 and Vandemark Road (CR-31).
