Excavate the culvert area; remove and dispose of old culvert. 3. The bottom width of the culvert trench should be twice the width of the culvert, with sidewalls no steeper than 1:1. Excavate 10 feet downstream of the culvert discharge to a depth of 18" for riprap. Use erosion control precautions. 4. Lay pipe up slope, starting at outlet end. 5. The longitudinal profile should be set at the same slope as the natural stream gradient. 6. A minimum of 24" of fill over a culvert is required. 16" of dense grade stone and 8" of fine crushed gravel with compaction in 1' lifts. 7. Place 12 inch minus riprap in the excavated outlet area tamping it level with the stream bottom. 8. Hydroseed or seed and mulch, all disturbed gravel areas. 9. Trench patch over both areas. Pavement must be a 2 1/4" base course of Type II bituminous concrete with a wearing course of 1 1/2" Type III bituminous concrete for the overlay, to a width of approximately 4' by 27 feet in length over each culvert. (This measurement will depend on how the contractor excavates.) The chosen Contractor will work under the direction of the Road Foreman. Invoicing shall be for work satisfactorily completed and paid per bid sheet. The chosen Contractor shall warranty materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of completion. The Contractor or their subcontractor shall complete all remedial/warranty work at no additional cost to the Town within 60 days of any such order to repair.
