These projects include the Roy Reynolds Bridge scour protection, drainage flume replacement from Mountain Lion Road to Pontiac Drive and channel scour protection downstream of Clore Road. Scour protection means removal of sediment such as sand or gravel. According to the staff report, these projects were combined into one bid because of their similarities. The city engineer’s estimate of the probable cost for this project was $704,955. However, JH Contracting had by far the lowest bid at $268,336. The funds for this project will be paid out of the Capital Improvement Fund and the competition of the project is expected in 180 days. The Harker Heights City Council will also be appointing members to several boards, committees and commissions, including the Harker Heights Planning and Zoning Commission. The City Council will meet in closed session to discuss the appointment of officers to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustments. Killeen ISD Superintendent Jo Ann Fey will also give a presentation to the City Council about the state of the school district, including updates on enrollment, projected growth, academic activities and facilities.
