This project would allow the cities of both Shawnee and Merriam to collaborate and open up a trail link from the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail trailhead in Merriam to downtown Shawnee and the Oxbow Trail. It further builds on the 2015 "Linking Historic Shawnee" multi-modal plan by completing connectivity origianlly conceptualized by the Community Connections - Nieman Road Study. This corridor plan will construct a bicyle and pedestrian connection to allow residents who live east of Shawnee's central business district better access to services, restaurants, community assets and transit stops that currently exist. This project is included in the City of Shawnee 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 18, 2025, information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed.
