Site work for a water / sewer project in Saranac Lake, New York. Design plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
As of November 6, 2025, a design firm has been selected for the project. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Village of Saranac Lake seeks to contract with a qualified firm or consultant team for the design and professional engineering for the Village Water System Project. The Village has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify firms with the interest, expertise and capacity to assist the Village with this necessary project. From the list of qualified firms, the Village will select the firm that is best suited to assist the Village in accordance with the Village of Saranac Lake Procurement Policy. Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Set Aside: No The Village of Saranac Lake owns and operates a water source, treatment, storage, and distribution system "the water system" within the Village boundaries. The water system also serves a small number of users, both in district and out of district, in surrounding neighborhoods within the Towns of Harrietstown, North Elba, and St. Armand. The water system source currently consists of two wells located at 680 State Route 3, installed in 2011. The well water is chlorinated and then pumped into a storage tank located on Mt. Pisgah before distribution to the water customers. A second water storage tank, installed in 1968, is located on View Street. The Village also maintains its original water source, McKenzie Pond, a surface water source that can currently only be used as an emergency backup source. One of the Village's existing wells, PW-1, has been experiencing increased levels of iron and is primarily offline. Despite repeated attempts to rehabilitate the well, it is determined that an alternative treatment method or alternative source is required. There is also evidence of increased sodium intrusion into the wells. The existing water distribution system is made up of a collection of water mains installed through different eras over the last 130+ years. The system consists of pipes of various sizes, ages, and conditions. The water main on Lake Flower Ave has a history of breaks which negatively impact the residences, stores, restaurants, hotels, and other entities that rely on safe drinking water for daily operations. The Village provides water to residences in the Town of St. Armand and Town of North Elba in the Rockledge Park area. The Village's water mains are undersized and aged and as a result, the residents in Rockledge Park do not have sufficient water pressure, especially during periods of high water usage, such as fire flow events. In selecting the consultant, engineering firm the Village will consider the following qualifications: 1. Project approach and innovation 2. Qualifications of personnel/project team and records of past performance Related project and general experience of team Experience of key project team members Projects of similar scope Ability to meet schedules Recognition of excellence Working relationships Experience with the Village of Saranac Lake All inquiries should be directed to: Bachana Tsiklauri Village Manager Village of Saranac Lake 3 Main Street, Suite 1 Saranac Lake, NY 12983 (518) 891-4150 ext.205 The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
