The Haisla Nation, through its economic development corporation, Development Corporation, is leading the development of the Haisla Centre Project, located at the site of the old Kitimat hospital. The land was acquired by the Haisla Nation from the Province of British Columbia and the development concept is supported by the District of Kitimat. Haisla Centre envisions the construction of housing units, hotel complex, commercial and retail spaces, and other facilities. The first phase is complete and includes a 49-room building currently being leased to LNG Canada as housing for project employees. The vision for Phase 2 would see a broad range of residential and commercial spaces, and services and amenities for the community. The Haisla Centre Master Plan is a significant development project which aims to identify land use and opportunities for a large parcel of fee simple land owned by the Haisla Nation. This Master Plan will play a crucial role in preserving and enhancing the economic, social and cultural well-being of the Haisla Nation through sustainable economic development in the industrial, commercial and retail spaces The Master Plan will also serve as a guiding document for future development and economic growth in the region.
