This project is Phase 2 of the Huckabay Medical education building at the University of Idaho campus. This 5,392 GSF addition is 1-story, type 5 wood construction and fully sprinklered throughout. The addition includes study rooms, faculty offices, and a flex conference/teaching space centered around an exterior courtyard. Support spaces such as single-user restrooms, storage, and utility rooms are included as well. Some spaces in the existing building are to be converted as part of this project, including demolishing parts of the existing exterior wall to provide connections and replacing ceilings and updating finishes in these areas. Most of the new building's profile is formed by a high sawtooth volume, comprised of prefabricated wood trusses sitting atop glulam beams that are supported by steel columns. There is a small area of lower roof which connects the sawtooth volume to the existing building. This low roof houses a new AHU and is the primary collection point for all rainwater. The roof is a PVC membrane with field applied PVC ribs on the high roof area only. These ribs mimic the look of standing seam roofing and work to channel water into a series of gutters at the valleys of the sawtooth. The addition is primarily clad in black ribbed metal panel, with yellow phenolic accent panels on select exterior walls and soffits which are insulated rainscreen assemblies that. The main glazing is a black curtain wall system that runs along the perimeter of the building with varying heights to match the angled roof form in the courtyard. There are also three large, glazed openings at the ends of the interior corridors. A sliding exterior door from the Flex Room to the Courtyard is to be bid as an add alternate, clarified below. In the center of the floor plan there is a cluster of 7 rooms (Conference Room 171, SGL 172, Elec/Coms185, Storage 186, and Gender-Neutral Bathrooms 187 and 188) surrounded by Halls, it is referred to in the drawings as the Conference + Mixing Zone Pod and the "Nugget." The Conference + Mixing Zone Pod has vertical partitions and angled, faceted soffits. The base bid finish for all partitions and soffits for this area is painted gwb. Add Alternate 3 for the Conference + Mixing Zone Pod is described below. The project includes new HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, telecom and fire protection to serve the addition. A new water room to serve the entire building is provided along with a new electrical room to supplement the main electrical room in the existing building. There is limited landscaping outside the building that is included in the project, mainly a permeable hardscape in the courtyard and entry area along with planting around the perimeter. Work to connect to existing site utilities will require select demolition of the surrounding parking lot areas as well. The three (3) add alternates to be bid as part of the project are as follows: Add-Alt 1: Flex Room 176 ceiling, CPT, WB02, MB03, MB04 and casework shown on 7/A703 and detail 1/A803, lighting, mechanical scope, AV scope. Base bid shall include furred interior gwb per details and recess for MB03 per 6/A703 and 3/A803. Add-Alt 2 is to include the sliding exterior pocket door from the Flex room to the courtyard and all associated scope such as the recessed curb, door pocket framing, and exterior closures where the door abuts the curtain wall. The base scope is curtain wall. Refer to sheet A-101 and A-202. Add-Alt 3 is to include WD-01 to vertical partitions and faceted soffits around the perimeter of the Conference + Mixing Zone Pod/Nugget over the gwb in the base bid. Refer to sheet A-701 and A-703 for this scope. Note that the open room Mixing Zone 167 faceted ceiling SFT1 and MB4 east wall are in the base bid.
