Shelby County residents could see several roads paved next summer. However, there may be more roads to be paved than initially thought. Tom Hall, a Department of Highway Planning Supervisor from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), presented a recommendation to the Shelby County Fiscal Court regarding their rural secondary road paving program. Currently, the state mandates the state primary road system in Shelby County. The system comprises three different road systems: state primary roads, such as interstates; state secondary roads, such as US 60; and rural secondary roads, which are farm-to-market roads connecting to larger roads in the county. The transportation cabinet plans to advertise for bids this fall and to start resurfacing work in July 2025. The program funds are allocated from the remaining funds from last year's paving project The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
