Renovation of a mixed-use development in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Working plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

The owner has determined a prequalified list of general sub-contractors. Project The Town of Newbury is seeking written quotes from qualified contractors for the historic schoolhouse window repair/restoration. Contractor Qualification Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000. The Town of Newbury is seeking written quotes from qualified contractors for the historic schoolhouse window repair/restoration project. The historic schoolhouse is located at the Lower Green at the corner of Newman and High Roads in Newbury, MA The six windows on the first floor are six-over-six double hung wood windows. The windows (both sashes) are about 76" high by 36" wide. The muntins are approximately 1/2 " wide. Some of the panes are older glass and some are replacement glass. The one attic window is also six-over-six approximately 56" high by 30" wide (both sashes). The muntins are approximately 5/8" wide. 1. Remove the windows and provide a weather-proof covering for the openings. 2. Remove all old glazing and paint. 3. Remove all panes. Provide replacement glass as needed. Customer may be able to source period glass. 4. Clean and sand the rabbets. 5. Repair or replace any rotten or cracked wood. 6. Sand all faces. 7. Stabilize the corners of the frames by re-pinning and/or regluing as needed. 8. Treat rabbets and sashes inside and outside with 70% linseed oil and 30% turpentine. Allow to dry. 9. Bed the rabbets with oil-based glazing compound. 10. Reinstall glass and secure with glazing points. 11. Apply glazing to the muntin over the pane and allow to cure 7-10 days. 12. Prime with an oil-based primer inside and out. 13. Finish paint the outside surfaces with an oil-based paint matching the green color of the doors. 14. Seal inside frames and muntins with an oil-based tinted satin varnish, covering any glazing compound that shows through the glass. 15. Any repair work on sills, sash weights, pulleys, etc. will be performed by the Historical Commission. 16. Remove temporary coverings and reinstall sashes.
