Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Taunton, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; sidewalk / parking lot; for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.
Memorial Park can be found at the intersection of Somerset Avenue and Orchard Street or Somerset Avenue and First Street with a pond in the center of the park. The work for this project is generally from the pond north to Orchard Street and the pond east to the recently completed memorial parking and driveway. The goal of the project is to reduce the surface area of the pond by 40+/- percent to 40,000+/- square feet while deepening the pond improving water quality and establishing a ground water supplied permanent pool of water. To provide a ground water pool, the pond will be excavated 11' with reuse of the material for borrow on-site. The pond includes proposed aerators and plantings. An additional project goal is to prevent pond water from flowing to the adjacent wooded wetland, flooding the recently renovated Flannery Playground, by connecting the wetland to the pond with a culvert and flapper valve for single flow control to the pond. A parking lot is proposed to front Orchard Street of approximately 80 spaces with an asphalt millings surface. A premanufactured cedar bandshell requiring contractor assembly and installation is proposed. A premanufactured 3 stall restroom facility with a storage room requiring contractor assembly, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work is proposed. The bandshell is fronted with a gentle sloping lawn pitched away from the bandshell towards the pond utilizing on-site excavated material to fill and elevate the space. Timber guardrail, concrete sidewalks, stone dust walks, precast concrete curb, drainage, underground detention, water and sewer service to restroom, electrical service to the site lighting and restrooms, topsoil, lawn establishment, miscellaneous boulder placement and minor walls, landscaping, and associated site work are proposed. The existing shed is to be removed while retaining the fireplace and chimney. These improvements and all other proposed improvements area illustrated within the Contract Documents and Drawings. The project will be permitted during the winter of 2025 with permits expected before the end of April 21, 2025. During this period, the contractor may choose to initiate submittals, general conditions, and preparatory work. The work is estimated to cost $3,300,000. General bids shall be accompanied by a bid deposit that is not less than five (5%) of the greatest possible bid amount (considering all alternates) and made payable to the City of Taunton. The award will be to the lowest, responsible, and eligible bidder. The successful bidder must furnish a 100% PERFORMANCE and PAYMENT BOND and will be required to execute the Contract Agreement within five (5) days following notification of the acceptance of their Bid. The OWNER reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to accept any bid, to waive any informality on bids received, and to omit any item or items deemed advisable for the best interests of the OWNER. All costs associated with the preparation of the bids shall be the responsibility of the bidder, regardless of whether or not the Contract is awarded. All questions shall be submitted in writing to AJ Marshall at amarshall@taunton-ma.gov by Tuesday November 19th. The Engineer will arrange an agenda, which shall become part of the Contract, all questions received as provided above, and their decision regarding each. Reasonable questions will be answered by Thursday November 12, 2024, at 5pm
