This project will replace an existing building on the Laurel South Campus. A study that was performed to determine cost to renovate the existing building determined that replacement was more economically and functionally feasible. The original building was constructed in 1971, and certain program spaces are grossly undersized to meet current needs. This project will expand those programs that have demonstrated rapid growth and will better align space needs to meet changes in industry demand. This replacement facility will enhance various existing technology programs such as Diesel and Automotive Technology, Welding, HVAC, IMT, Computer Assisted Design, 3D Printing Technologies, Construction Technology, Electrical, and Flexlabs to permit other program instruction that are currently in high demand by the local industry. This project is included in the city's 2024-2026 Capital Budget Request. As of February 19, 2025, an RFP was issued and responses due in December 2024. A shortlist meeting was scheduled for January 9, 2025, with interviews January 23, 2025. An award has not been made at this time. Currently funding for this project is for Design only ($3M). It is anticipated that funding for Construction ($27M) will become available in July 2025. However, should funding be delayed the project may need to await construction until funding is made available.
