Reference Number 00004310779 The City of Burlington published its first Community Trails Strategy (CTS) in 2015. As part of that work, a vision statement was created and is still applicable today. "The Community Trails in the City of Burlington are designed and developed as a means of connecting residents and visitors to open spaces, parks, community destinations and surrounding communities for recreational and day to day activities. The network is made up of off-road routes which reflect current design standards and unique municipal characteristics. The City of Burlington is seeking a consulting team to refresh the City's 2015 Community Trails Strategy (CTS). Since the CTS has been in effect, Burlington has undergone and is undergoing tremendous change. There is very little green field development remaining, so the city is growing up not out. COVID helped demonstrate the importance of outdoor trails. The province declared a housing crisis where Burlington signed a housing pledge to accommodate 29,000 new units at the same time as the city approaches build out. New corporate growth-related master plans and studies were published and endorsed by City Council. With all this change, it is important to refresh the City's Trail Strategy to ensure the city is keeping pace with the expectations of the community by continuing to grow Burlington's trail network.
