Renovation of a power facility in Baker Lake, Nunavut. Completed plans call for the renovation of a power facility.
The objective of this RFP is to provide design, installation, testing and engineering services required for replacing an existing G4 CAT 3508B with a new, QEC supplied diesel power genset, Caterpillar 3516 C with a capacity of 1,100 eKW at 4160 V (see Owner Supplied Materials) at the Baker Lake power plant. Based on the estimation of the genset supply contractor, the estimated delivery of the genset is September 2025 in Baker Lake. Delivery is based on equipment being ready to ship, marine carrier’s 2025 sailing schedule to Baker Lake, as well weather/ice conditions in 2025. The existing Genset #4’s cooling, fuel, heat recovery, compressed air start systems and associated auxiliary equipment, piping and valves, as well as electrical main protection relay, power cables, control cables/wires, the control circuits and other devices need to be replaced and upgraded to accommodate the new genset. A new heat recovery of engine jacket water will need to be incorporated into the plant heating system. In addition, various supports and structures also require modification and/or re-fabrication to accommodate the new genset, piping and its auxiliary equipment. The overview of scope of work in this project consists of the following work for the new, QEC supplied genset: 1. Design of installation of Genset #4, CAT 3516C at 4160 V. 2. Supply construction material. 3. Demolition of the existing Genset #4. 4. Field installation, testing and commissioning of new Genset #4. 5. Start-up and operator training. Shortlist Confirmed.
