Site work and new construction of a day care center in Victoria, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the construction of a 4,320-square-foot, one-story above grade day care center; and for site work for a day care center.

Through this opportunity, the Legislative Assembly intends to pre-qualify Qualified Suppliers for the construction of a non-profit, licensed Child Care Centre on the Legislative Precinct. The project objective is to create a safe, nurturing facility to provide infant and child care. The facility will include a variety of indoor and outdoor play spaces, incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems. The proposed Child Care Centre is an employer sponsored facility which will provide quality, licensed child care services for families associated by way of employment to the Legislative Assembly, as well as families in the local community. The Child Care Centre will be a one-storey modular structure with fenced outdoor play space. The location of the site for the construction of the Child Care Centre building is expected to be the southeast corner of the Legislative Precinct grounds, on the parking lot at Government and Superior streets in Victoria BC. The project scope to be included for the construction of the Child Care Centre and related works and services is expected to include (but not necessarily be limited to) the following: 1. Site preparation works: a. Site clearing, site excavation, services required for the building, installation of utilities (water, electricity, sewage) including all required sub-services. 2. Construction of an approximately 400 square meter building: a. Construction of building foundations. b. Construction of a one-story wood frame building designed for play-based learning containing separate indoor spaces for different age groups and activities (e.g., infants, toddlers, preschool), administrative office, staff lounge, and restrooms, multipurpose room for activities, meals, and events; c. Building is designed in modules and includes the option to be relocatable, if required. Value engineering and cost efficiencies in construction and materials are highly encouraged. 3. Outdoor spaces: a. Fenced playground with soft surfaces and with age-appropriate equipment; b. Open green spaces for outdoor learning and physical activities. 4. Furnishings and Equipment as required. 5. Safety features: a. Security fencing, cameras and sensors, secure entry and exit points. Coordination will be required between the Contractor and the Legislative Assembly regarding purchase and install location of security equipment; b. Fire alarms and emergency exits; c. Childproofing measures throughout the Child Care Centre. 6. Sustainability Features: a. Use of cost-effective eco-friendly building materials and energy-efficient systems; b. Incorporation of natural light and ventilation.
