Gordon Wood is the administrator at the Department of Accounting and General Services' (DAGS) Public Works Division. It is the fourth-largest Capital Improvement Plan agency in state government, after the Departments of Education and Transportation and the University of Hawai?i. DAGS is the central manager for many state building projects, overseeing jobs for sister agencies that lack their own engineering staff. For instance, it's involved with the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District, the new O?ahu Jail, the State Capitol glass pools, and almost 300 other projects for Hawai?i’s people. Wood is stepping down after 14 years at DAGS and said he's proud of his time with the state. Wood said he chose to end his architectural career at the state because he wanted to make a difference in our community. DAGS is now hiring for a new Public Works Administrator. -------------------------- The work generally consists of demolishing and rebuilding perimeter walkways, installing new railing on pools' makai side, reconstructing fountain walls, installing ADA ramps, installing concrete "terrace" around pool perimeter, installing concrete "collars" on columns and chamber wall perimeters, replacing column cladding, install drains and associated piping connecting to City and County storm drain system, removing and replacing chamber wall tiles, painting columns and their capitals, electrical and lighting improvements, landscape planting and irrigation improvements, and glass artwork paver panel installation on pedestals. The estimated construction cost is between $55 million and $65 million. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
