Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to a laboratory facility in Dry Branch, Georgia. Working plans call for the addition of a 36,179-square-foot laboratory facility; for the demolition of a laboratory facility; and for site work for a laboratory facility.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has maintained a lab and morgue in Macon, Georgia for many years. Known as the Central Georgia Lab and Morgue, the staff in this facility serves the following central Georgia counties: Baker, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bibb, Bleckley, Brooks, Calhoun, Clay, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Echols, Grady, Houston, Irwin, Jones, Lanier, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Miller, Mitchell, Peach, Pulaski, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Turner, Twiggs, Webster, Wilcox, Wilkinson, and Worth. The current lab and morgue have been in place since 2003 and are 14, 955 square feet and 2,727 square feet in area. The current morgue has two autopsy stations with a small cooler capacity, and the lab houses principally Chemistry/Toxicology lab spaces along with the required office and administrative space. The Medical Examiner currently maintains a small administrative area in the lab building. The lab and morgue have been incrementally updated over time, but a substantial renovation/addition has not been performed. Current and projected future caseloads indicate that the capabilities of the ME offices and morgue at this location will need to be enlarged and upgraded to handle future caseloads. As of October 22, 2025, this project is in design and will not go out to bid until December, 2026.
