The Village Open Space Stormwater Project, aimed at providing flood relief for residents of the Indian Lakes and Bloomfield Club subdivisions, is now underway. The project is intended to reduce backyard and street flooding during large storm events along Cardinal Avenue and Meadowlark. This is being achieved by excavating multiple areas on site for detention, rerouting runoff away from flood-prone, low-lying areas on and adjacent to the site, and via proposed storm sewers. New detention basins both wet bottom and wetland bottom facilities and the existing pump station will be removed. Wetland bottom facilities will be seeded with a wet prairie, and prairie seed mix. A paved, pedestrian path will be constructed along the perimeter of the site. Excavated material will be respread in adjacent open spaces above pond high-water levels (HWLs) so as to not cause adverse effects. This project is included in the City's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of February 18, 2025, per owner, the project began in October 2024 with a projected completion date of October 2025.
